Registration Procedures for Mountain Bike World Cups

We are often asked what riders have to do in order to register for mountain bike World Cup events, so below is an outline of the specific procedures and application submission procedures for Cross-country, Downhill and 4-Cross events.

UCI-affiliated teams register their riders directly through the UCI. Provincial and CCA registered teams must complete the registration forms and submit them through their provincial association office. The provincial associations have all received the forms from the CCA. Once completed, the forms are forwarded to the CCA office for submission to the UCI. The deadlines for submission are below.

Riders and teams should note that requests for late registration or cancellation will be handled on an athlete by athlete basis. The CCA will assess a $20.00 administration fee for all such requests. The fee may be waved only in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the CCA.

These forms are to be used only to register Elite category riders. (Elite Men, Espoir, & Elite Women). Junior athletes must register directly with the event organizer on an individual basis or through their team. The same is true for Master athletes. Master athletes may request an upgrade to compete in the Elite category; however, in doing so, they will forfeit their eligibility to compete at the Master World Championships.

Keep in mind that the UCI is expecting to see only the "top level Elite athletes" entered in the World Cup events with the intention to maintain the highest quality of competition. All athletes, wishing to enter a World Cup event, must have at least one UCI point and appear on the World ranking (except 4-Cross). There will be no exceptions to this fundamental eligibility requirement. Provinces and affiliated trade teams should verify that riders have met the eligibility requirement before submitting names. World rankings can be verified on the UCI website - www.uci.ch.

Please only register the athletes who will definitely attend the World cup events. It must be clearly understood that the UCI will assess a fine of 70.00 CHF (Swiss francs - now Euros) for each registered rider who fails to start an event. Any such fines will become the responsibility of the provincial association or registered trade team that submitted the athlete‚s name for participation. Late registrations will be considered by the UCI on an individual case basis. Any late entries that are permitted will be subject to a UCI imposed fine of 150.00 CHF in addition to the race entry fee. All late entry fees must be paid to the CCA prior to the competition date by: the athlete, the trade team, or the provincial association.

The UCI will post confirmation of all registered athletes on the web site approximately two weeks prior to each event. Provinces / trade teams should verify that all athlete registrations are correct and notify athletes in the case of any problems by checking the UCI website.

Riders who have been registered through a provincial association / registered trade team are responsible to sign-in at registration and pay for their entry fee at each event. Payment must be made in local currency at the time of race package pick-up. Riders must also be in good standing and in possession of a valid CCA/UCI International licence. Licences must be available for inspection by officials upon request.

UCI Wheel Regulations

Here is an update on international implementation of the new UCI wheel regulations, researched by commissaire Wayne Pomario (Cycle BC President):

The rules have not yet been implemented in the USA for domestic competition. The emphasis I received was on "yet".

The rules have been implemented in South Africa, Ireland, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands (I have direct confirmation on this). They are about to be implemented in Germany (in the next few days). And I have just received an e-mail from a senior UCI International Commissaire in Europe who has informed me that in fact the wheel regs are in force in all competition throughout Europe.
