Men‚s World Cup- Story

Last year‚s overall World Cup leader, Miguel Martinez, jumped out to an early lead in the men‚s cross-country World Cup race, but eventually winner Rune Höydahl made a superb charge to catch him on the second lap, just before the very technical descent that was causing many riders grief. Höydahl dropped the more cautious Martinez quickly, and was able to add to his lead each lap (6 laps total). Martinez rode steadily for second place, but was nearly gobbled up by a charging Thomas Frischknecht, the 3-time World Cup champion, barely holding the Swiss rider off by less than 7 seconds. Cadel Evans, the young Australian phenomenon, continues to struggle after his unexpectedly poor showing last weekend at Sea Otter.

At this point, it appears that the preliminary (unofficial) results we posted earlier will hold up to official scrutiny.
