Lyne Bessette Leaves Saturn To Pursue Personal Goals

Lyne Bessette took a few minutes to speak with us as she waited for her flight back to Baltimore after her press conference in Montreal this morning.

CC: Was it a major factor in your decision to leave Team Saturn that being part of the team was putting too many demands on you abilities to meet personal goals?

LB: Yes, they are a great bunch of girls, but Saturn is a professional team and as such the TEAM comes first. Not going to Worlds (in 2001) was very hard for me.

I have 2 priorities this year - the Commonwealth Games (Manchester in July/August) to defend my medal and the World Championships (Belgium in October). After that the World Championships in Canada (Hamilton 2003) to represent Canada & Quebec and then the Olympic Games (Athens 2004).

CC: Is there a chance you might go back to Saturn next year?

LB: Yes, it could happen. The door is open. We part on good terms.

CC: Are you looking forward to riding with Clara (Hughes) in Montreal?

LB: Yes, Clara and I are good friends. I look forward to riding (with her) for Team Quebec in Montreal.
