Former Ontario Junior Champ wins in France

Saturday May 18th. Former Ontario Junior Road Race Champion from the Ottawa Bicycle Club, Colin Burn won the first stage of the the Commune de Monseret in Languedoc. The race is part of the Tour de Minervois an Elite 3-National-Regional stage race in France. Colin races for the Jeune Cyclist Haute Vallée de l'Aude out of Limoux. The team is directed by Canadian, Chris Georgas.
The 90km stage was raced on a flattish 10km/h circuit for 9 laps. Weather was nasty - blowing a gail at 15 degees. On the second lap Colin broke away with Brit team mate, Chris Penkeff, and three other guys. After being caught, on the fourth lap they rode off the front with a group of twelve. They didn't realize they had started the winning break.
The gap kept growing with every lap. Colin and Chris took turns to attack every once-in-awhile to keep the pace up. On the last lap they decided that they had the strength to attack more frequently, they agreed that as one was caught the other would attack. However after one attack Colin shot off the front and soloed for 8km straight into the headwind putting 30 seconds into the pack and riding home to victory. It was a good day for Colin and his team. The team had taken 1st place, 1st Espoir, 1st Junior, and 1st team.
