Millward retains leader's jersey - Saturn stacks up riders in GC

The 89 women at the HP Women's Challenge raced a forty kilometer test of truth today. The lengthy and difficult race against the clock was a true trial for the 89 racers. Saturn's Anna Millward entered the stage with a slender margin over Rasa Polikeviciute, but the stage and the right to the Blue Leader's Jersey was there for anyone of the strong, determined and mentally tough riders in the top twenty -- all within a minute of Millward.

The out and back course left Stanley headed west on highway 21 and climbed, gradually taking the racers back up to Banner Pass. Coming back to home, the road descended ever so slightly, and the tail wind made an 11 tooth rear cog nearly a necessity. Finishers were clocked at over 35 mph crossing the finish line.

Judith Arndt set a lightening fast time, finishing well before her nearest competitors. She set a time of 53:31:82. Only her Saturn teammates Kimberly Bruckner and Anna Millward would come close with a 53:32 and a 53:34 respectively. Stage favorite Genevieve Jeanson put in a determined effort, finishing fourth at 54:40. Canadian Lyne Bessette was fifth with a 55:06. Saturn's Petra Rossner, showing good form yet again at this race finished in eighth with a time of 55:42.

Millward's ride keeps the Blue Leader's Jersey firmly on her shoulders. Bruckner and Arndt's time will move them up in GC, with three Saturn riders rounding out the top three, although results are unofficial at this time. This was the third consecutive stage win for the Saturn Team at this year's HP Women's Challenge

Tomorrow's race leaves Stanley and takes the women up to almost 9,000 feet over the infamous Galena Pass then down into Ketchum.
