Cuba International Cup Report (courtesy „Jay‰)

The National Track Team went to Cuba for the International Cup where, after having their bikes lost by the airlines for four days and suffering from the Cuban version of Montezuma's revenge, they finished second, behind the Cuban's who were very strong and deep, and ahead of the Americans (third with only one medal). The American medal came from a Junior who was riding in the senior race and who lives near Ottawa. Tanya Dubnicoff won two Golds - the match sprint and the 200. Doug Fisher won a Bronze. Danielle de Francesci was in great shape in the pre race training, but ended up in the hospital with an intestinal bug. Canadian National Champion Mandy Poitras finished fourth in the pursuit. Mandy, along with Lori Ann Muenzer and Chloe Black (who suffered four crashes, a flat and being directed the wrong way in a local road race before the Cup...) accounted for a stong showing in the points race. Michelle Boucher was all pumped for the 500K but was disappointed when she pulled her foot out of the pedal right at the start. Chloe Black missed all but the last day with the same bug as Danielle, but was happy she got into the Points race at least. The trip continues with a training camp for another week.

We have the latest (post Paris-Roubaix) UCI Road Rankings; once we have sorted out all of the Canadians they will go up later today. Also: if you haven‚t checked out the Forums lately, maybe you should...
