Canadian National Team for 2002 Road Worlds

The Canadian Cycling Association has announced the final selections for the Canadian team that will participate at the World Road Championships in Zolder, Belgium from October 8-13, 2002. Some categories have more riders listed than can enter the event, this is because the final selection will not be made until after projects currently underway in Europe.

Most of the selections are fairly obvious, the "big" unknowns were the men's elite road race and the second position for the men's time trial. Charles Dionne got the nod for the road race, primarily because he showed excellent form for this time of year with his win last weekend at the San Francisco GP. Roland Green took the second TT spot (national champion Eric Wohlberg was an automatic), based on his win at the Mountain Bike Worlds (showing his form), and his excellent 14th place finish last year in this event.

In the women's road race, and interesting addition is Katy St. Laurent, the national champion, who beat out a lot of other contenders.
