The Canadian Cycling Association is please to announce that two of our nominees have been chosen as finalists for the 30th Annual Canadian Sport Awards.

In the category of Athletic Performance Awards, for the second year in a row, Roland Green of Victoria has been selected as a finalist for the Male Athlete of the Year award. The award named in honour of Norton H. Crow, one of Canada's most prominent sport executives, is presented to the outstanding male athlete of the year. Norton H. Crow was instrumental in consolidating the Amateur Athletic Union in Canada, assisted in the development of amateur baseball and hockey, and was involved in the Olympic movement.

Last year, Roland Green took home the award, and it is a testament to his athletic achievements to have him as a finalist again. His successful racing season in 2002 culminated with him winning gold at the Mountain Bike World Championships for the second year in a row, and placing 20th in individual time trial at the Road World Championships.

In the category of Corporate Excellence Awards, Tim Hortons has been selected as a finalist for the National Team Support award. Corporate Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate corporations that provide outstanding support to Canadian sport. The National Team Support Award is presented annually to a corporation that has demonstrated an understanding of a national team's needs and a willingness to develop a number of corporate initiatives that support the training, competition, and promotional activities of a national team program. Tim Hortons was nominated by the CCA for their long-term, unconditional support of Canadian cycling, our programs and athletes.

Since 2001, the Canadian Sport Awards have been produced at CBC Headquarters in Toronto, hosted by veteran broadcaster Ron MacLean. It is a first class event that recognises the outstanding achievements of Canada's best amateur athletes and leaders, and showcases the heroes that live within sport. This year's awards will be given out Tuesday, March 25, 2003.
