The trip to Burnaby, and North America's only indoor velodrome was made even sweeter when I returned home to Calgary to snow and a forecast calling for 10+ more centimeters overnight!

The racing this past weekend was very exciting, and the participation was pretty fair considering there were many events on the calendar in the area that riders had to choose from.

I expect that the organizers will forward a complete results summary in the upcoming days, but in the mean time I'd like to highlight some of the results posted by members of our Canadian Track Cycling Team.

Travis Smith (Calgary) posted a new track record in the 1000Meter (1:07.66) in winning the event. 2nd place went to Kenny Williams of Seattle, USA (1:08.84). Travis also won the men's sprint event after posting the fastest qualifying time in the 200 Meter T.T (11.54).

Laura Yoisten (Calgary) posted a 39.11 in the 500 Meter , the fastest time for women. Breanna Loster (Victoria) was not too far behind in 39.66. Mandy Poitras (Vancouver) was also present this weekend, adding her skill and speed to the "B" category endurance events (along with providing the best keirin pacing possible by a rider without an engine, or battery power !).

Ryan McKenzie (Calgary) was the 2nd fastest qualifier in the mens 200 Meter (11.98), finishing 3rd in the sprint tournament. Ryan also posted a 2nd place in the mens 60 lap scratch race, along with a 3rd in the mens 1000Meter (1:11.31). Cameron MacKinnon (Calgary) posted his best result in the final event of the weekend with a 3rd in the men's keirin final. Travis, Ryan and Cameron combined to win the mens team sprint event on Sunday afternoon as well.

Also of note were two of the youngest athletes competing in the weekends competition. Scott Crump, 15 years old (Port Moody, B.C) and Rene Regimbald, 16 years old (Calgary) were the dominant riders overall in the "B" category. These two young men will be the stars of the future for Canadian Track Cycling if they continue with their progression and competitive racing styles!

On behalf of the National Cycling Centre-Calgary, I'd like to thank the organizers (Rosemary Pritchard, and her crew of volunteers), along with the Burnaby Velodrome Club for a fantastic weekend of racing and a very productive week of training prior.
