Victoria's Melanie McQuaid (Ford Outfitters) and Nanaimo's Matt Usborn (Symmetrics Cycling) were the overall winners of the 2003 Times Colonist Cycling Festival that saw more than 700 cyclists hit the roads of Victoria this weekend.

McQuaid lapped the field to take the B107.3 Bastion Square Grand Prix in 53.37, over a minute faster than former national teammate Lesley Tomlinson of North Vancouver (Rocky Mountain/Crystal Decisions) and Vancouver's Marnie Prazsky (55:07 - Trek/Volkswagen). McQuaid needed the impressive win to clinch the overall title after a fifth place finish in the Cardinal Law Sooke Classic Road Race yesterday, where Leah Goldstein of Vancouver took the win, followed by Sarah Noble (Penticton - Bike Barn) and Tomlinson.

Usborn was the bridesmaid in both races, but had enough points overall to take the title. In today's B107.3 Bastion Square Grand Prix he lost a sprint finish to Olympian Andreas Hestler (North Vancouver - Rocky Mountain/Crystal Decisions). Third and fourth were also decided by a sprint that saw Victoria's Tony Zarsadias (Symmetrics Cycling) take Olympian Geoff Kabush (Victoria - Kona Clarks Factory Team) to the line.

Yesterday Usborn came second in the Cardinal Law Sooke Classic Road Race to Mission's Dylan Sebel. Third was 1988 Olympian Luca Segato (Victoria - Bellcom).
