The 4th running of the S & S Turbines Hill Climb is happening this Sunday (August 10th) at 10:00 am. Last years' champion will not be there so the gates are wide open for a new champion to take his place.

The two most decorated club riders, Robert Martens and Pat Ferris have both won dozens of club trophies over the years but the Club Hill Climb Championship has eluded them both. Second place is the closest Ferris or Martens have come, so far.

Vaughn Hildebrand was last years' record breaking, run away winner. His time of 21:47 knocked off the previous fastest time of 22:24 set by Dave Damery in 2001. Robert Martens won the sprint for second place with a time of 23:38. Mike Heintzman was third at 23:44 and Pat Ferris had 23:54 for 4th place. Twenty-two riders started out the event.

Mike Hientzman is the favourite to win as he proved he can climb very well. Inaugural 1999 Hill climb winner Joseph Gladysz will also be there. Stephen Ferris has just returned from Abitibi and will be a challenger. Trevor McDonell has been a good road racer and time trial competitor so will be fighting for top spot. Pat Ferris and Robert Martens will also be waiting to pounce.

Race time is at 10:00 am from the Bear Flats Bridge on the Hudson Hope road. The 8.3 km hill road route is a little shorter than last year but is now a little steeper. The winner will make it up in about 21 minutes.
