Les Akins also placed third overall at the National Collegiate Championships. He is attending Midwestern State University here in Wichita Falls Texas and invites any and all interested in attending to email him via les.akins@mohican.mwsu.edu!! Cheers to all.

Cannondale Motorcycle Update

Just got off the telephone with Tom Armstrong at Cannondale, who wanted to tell me that they are sending us info on a bunch of new `99 products in the next couple of weeks. He also updated us on the status of the Cannondale motorcycle project. Tom says that the prototypes are now being tested, with finished samples in about 6 months, and that it should in stores in about 1 year. Part of what is slowing the project is the development of their own motor. He promises that we will be able to get one for testing when they are available. (the question is: do we really want one?)

Gilligan Woes

We could resist posting this one...Bob Denver, the Œstar‚ of Gilligan‚s Island, has been arrested on charges of marijuana possession. I guess we know now why he always looked so happy, even when the Skipper was whacking him about the head...

COFFEE GRINDS PASTA

Event 8 of the Midweek Club's Wednesday series was Jet Fuel Ace, Heath Cockburn's, chance to show Crit. Man, Tim Lefebvre, Ital Pasta, how he won the series last year. In cool, windy conditions, Cockburn and independent rider, Patrick Shea, made an early break from the hesitant 1/2 pack and stayed away from them for the rest of the event, passing the handicap bunch in the process.

Eventually, a chase group of seven detached itself from the pack but Heath and Patrick put on a rare display of team time trialling and gained 5-8 seconds per lap on them. The sprint for third was taken by Dave Fry (Hummingbirds) with Woodstock's Greg Cavanagh 4th. and Piers Davidge (Mississauga) 5th.

Among the 16 newcomers to the series were Sophie Radecki and Allyson Fox, Rip n' Hammer and national team member Anne Samplonius who, with GT's Leslie Greene, Lisa McGilvray, Schwinn, Tina Mayberry, Jet Fuel and Deanna Mercier, Chain Reaction, made up over ten percent of the field. Significantly, over a quarter of the riders were mountain bikers.

Thanks go to the city of Mississauga for finishing the road works on the circuit during the day.
