Quebec cup no. 1

On a cold, rainy, mucky, September morning, few racers showed up for the first leg of the Quebec cyclo-cross series held in Bromont, Quebec. Those who were brave enough however, had loads of fun tackling a fast and challenging 2.5 km course that tested the technical abilities of the racers. Tight, grassy (and wet!) swithbacks, 2 ditch crossings and a part of the BMX track that quickly turned into a mud field. Oh... and a 40 k/hr head wind at times.

On the first few laps, both of the senior and master winners, Jurgen Van den Driessche and Pascal Buissières, started of with a strong tempo that no other racer could match. Their lead quickly grew to 1 minute on their respective fields and their advantage wasen't in jeopardy for the whole race. Benoit Simard, Mark Comaniuk and Pierre Boilard offered a strong performance as well to finish on the podium. On the women's side, Cassandra Coté blew the opposition
away on her first, and let's hope not her last, cyclo-cross race.

Thank you to everybody that showed up to race, the volunteers and to the sponsor for the day, Tim Hortons who helped to warm the racers back up after
this cold ordeal.
