2004 Road Nationals in Kamloops BC

Kamloops, British Columbia bid to host the 2004 Tim Hortons Road National Championships has been accepted by the Canadian Cycling Association.

"The Canadian Cycling Association is very pleased to announce that the City of Kamloops will host the 2004 Tim Hortons Road Cycling National Championships. Kamloops has a great reputation for supporting national level sporting events. The community will be treated to some very exciting races early this summer, with a chance to cheer on our cycling Olympians before they travel to Athens." says Brett Stewart, Competition Coordinator for the CCA.

Spearheading the bid is Henry Pejril, who has organized all of the mountain bike competitions at Sun Peaks for the past eight years, including two recent Tim Hortons Mountain Bike National Championships. Henry is bringing this experience back to Kamloops, the Tournament Capital of Canada, and is applying it to the Road Racing disciplines. "This event is an excellent opportunity for the road race community in Kamloops to display their expertise and enthusiasm, and should serve as the model for many future high level races" says Henry. "There is no doubt that the city's support through the Tournament Capital program was a deciding factor in the winning of this bid."

Sean Smith, Tournament Capital Coordinator for the City of Kamloops, is also very pleased with the announcement. "It's great to see that the national sporting world recognizes the quality and talent of event organizers and volunteers in Kamloops. Without these dedicated individuals, events like this just would not happen".

Over 500 athletes will compete during the four day event running from June 24 through June 27, 2004.

Tentative Schedule:

June 24 (Thursday): ITT all categories
June 25 (Friday): Road Races (all categories EXCEPT Elite men and women)
June 26 (Saturday): Elite Men and Women RR
June 27 (Sunday): Criterium (all categories)
