Jeanson Issued U.S. Licence

We have just received confirmation that Genevieve Jeanson has just been issued a USA Cycling licence. An announcement from USA Cycling is expected to be issued shortly.

Jeanson has been without a licence thus far in the season because the Quebec federation (FQSC) has delayed her application, citing concerns over information received with respect to the high hematocrit level she recorded at the Road World Championships last October. Jeanson met with CCA and FQSC officials in December to provide an explanation as to why the high level occurred. The FQSC felt that the information provided was not sufficient to determine the cause (and, in their view, to determine whether there was continued health risk), and delayed issuing a licence.

The delay in issuing a licence meant that Jeanson missed the Tour of the Sun stage race in Arizona last month, and could not, in fact, race in any early season events. The Team Rona rider first approached the Ontario Cycling Association to receive a licence and then USA Cycling, citing her residence in Arizona as sufficient reason for being eligible for a U.S.-based licence.

The issuance of a licence in the U.S. has no effect on her status as a Canadian rider, and she can still represent Canada as a member of the national team.
