Paris-Nice - France
Stage 4 of the Paris-Nice has been cancelled, due to snow. The organizers decided first to shorten the stage, but then realized that snow was falling even on the shortened course. This is the second major race cancellation in the past two weeks, after the Omloop Het Volk was canncelled February 28th for the same reason.
Tirreno-Adriatico - Italy
Stage 1 - Sabaudia 172km
1 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) Fassa Bortolo 3:55:31
2 Erik Zabel (Ger) T-Mobile
3 Danilo Hondo (Ger) Gerolsteiner both s.t.
Tour de Georgia Update
The Tour de Georgia sent out a press release earlier which gave the impression that a number of national teams were invited to the April 20-25 race, but that Canada was not included on the list. We have spoken with Jackie Tyson at the Tour, and she has cleared up the misunderstanding.
The 16 teams that have been invited are all trade teams, with the sole exception of a USA Cycling Espoir squad. Tyson also said that 14 of the 16 teams invited have confirmed their participation. The committed teams are:
Landbouwkrediet ˆ Colnago (Denmark)
U.S. Postal Service, presented by Berry Floor
Team CSC (Denmark)
Barloworld-Androni Giocattoli (Italy)
Domina Vacanze (Italy)
Colavita Olive Oil, presented by Bolla Wines
Health Net, presented by Maxxis
Jittery Joe's Coffee
Most of the teams have not yet named their rosters for the race, but the biggest name is, of course, Lance Armstrong. According to Tyson, Bobby Julich is expected to be there for CSC. There should be a fair Canadian representation, with Gord Fraser (Health Net), Mark Walters (Navigators), Eric Wohlberg (Sierra Nevada) and Charles Dionne (Webcor) all likely to attend. Potentially, Michael Barry and/or Ryder Hesjedal could be on the US Postal squad.
