This month's inaugural Yaletown Grand Prix promises to rival the excitement and electricity of the long standing Tour of Gastown. Located in a trendy and very popular area of Vancouver, Yaletown is home to some of the finest restaurants, cafés, and shopping in Vancouver. Located in the heart of this area, the racecourse is lined with spectator friendly elevated loading dock style sidewalks, representing the perfect venue for a criterium bike race. With the full support of the community and a growing cash and prize list, we expect to fill the streets with racers and spectators. The race has been scheduled on the calendar between the National Road Championships held this year in Kamloops, B.C. (June 24 ˆ 27th) and the start of BC Super Week (July 16th). The racing will start at 5pm Wednesday June 30th with the main event, the Pro 1/2 men lining up at 8pm.

If your club or team is planning on traveling out west to do the Nationals, stick around and participate in this exciting night of racing. The top teams in BC, including Trek/ VW, Broadway Station Dental, Symmetrics, Solo Rocky Mountain, Shwalbe, Brodie and many more will be here to fight it out for top honors. The inaugural Yaletown Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on Wednesday June 30th, 2004 in the heart of Yaletown in Vancouver. Organized and promoted by The TrekVolkswagen Racing Team, the Yaletown Brewing Company and the Mark James Group, the criterium will be one of the premier events during Vancouver's Bike Month, and will play host to all levels of racers. The Yaletown Brewing Grand Prix will feature an exciting, fast race which will wind through the heart of historic Yaletown, making the course easily accessible for spectators.

Located along False Creek's north shore, just steps from downtown Vancouver, Yaletown's rebirth has transformed the area from a busy warehouse and industrial district to one of the areas most sought after neighborhoods. Over the years, Yaletown has grown into a trendy, up-market community, with an eclectic mix of residential, office, high-end restaurants, microbreweries, boutiques, and cafes. Racing begins in the late afternoon, with five separate races!

Dozens of volunteers are also needed for the event. Volunteering opportunities include, but are not limited to, marshaling, security and hospitality. Course marshal's duties may include crowd control; traffic control; operating pedestrian crosswalks, or acting as a float person. Set-Up and take-down volunteers are required to position, erect and dismantle race equipment. We'll teach you everything you need to know. The only requirements are that you need to be at least 18 years old.

A volunteer coordination meeting will be held Monday June 28th, 7:00pm, at the Yaletown Brew Pub. If you are interested in making this new race an event to remember please contact: Steve Engh at 328-7370 or E-mail: info@trekvwracing.com.
