Team Biovail Cervelo Report

Yesterday's pouring rain carried over to today so we are starting to feel like ducks here in Altoona, PA. The Johnstown Circuit race is a technical race on a good day but with the oil and rain soaked roads, as well as construction on various parts of the course, this was going to be an interesting day.

At the start of the race it was apparent that keeping alert was going to be key to finishing. This was easier said than done since several crashes affected most of the teams, including our rider Rhonda Guzda. Rhonda went down at the end of lap one but bounced up quickly and after receiving a new front wheel, was on her way.

Team Biovail-Cervelo riders Jen Stephenson, Julia Farrell and Leigh Hobson worked hard to get to the front of the peloton to set themselves up for the finish. Getting to the front on narrow and technical roads was an accomplishment in itself, staying there was even harder. Team Quark and Genesis Scuba were setting a fast tempo leading into the finish and Jen, Julia and Leigh finished strong with the main pack.

Leigh finished 10th in today's stage and after stage 2 is sitting 3rd overall in the Queen of the Mountains competition. In the team competition we are moving up in the Team GC, now sitting at 8th overall.

Cycling Shoes for Cuba
Courtesy Peter McCaffery

Peter Penman, whom many of you older Ontario riders will remember from the QCBC days, is now living in Cuba and working with some of the local cyclists. He's back in Oakville for a few days visiting relatives. One of the Cuban riders' crying needs is for shoes. If any of you have any surplus cycling shoes in any condition, just drop them off at the Monday, Wednesday or Thursday Midweek CC events or call Peter McCaffery to arrange pick-up (647 891 7221).

Alberta ITT Series Race #3
Submitted by Bruce Copeland - Race Organizer

Juventus Devon ITT July 24/04

Sixty six riders contested a 42 km ITT on a rolling course in almost perfect conditions of 30 C and light SE winds. Two sharp 8 to 10 % climbs and lots of cornering kept racers honest.

Thanks to everyone who attended, the Juventus volunteers and the Town of Devon for prizes.
