After a fabulous night of racing Friday night, racers were treated to a sunny day full of fantastic racing. Saturday was the match sprints. Racers endured a long day of racing made tougher due to 103 degree temperatures in the infield. Racers from Arizona, California, Washington and Canada attended this round of the American Velodrome Challenge with names like Kenny Williams, Keith Bruneau, Scott La Liberte and Ryan Miller making their marks in the match sprints. The biggest upset was Ryan Miller defeating Kenny Williams (multiple national champion) in the semi finals and advancing to the finals with Keith Bruneau (Dr Walker) of Canada. In the finals, Keith Bruneau won the day.

In the women'c competetion, Annette Hansen (Rubicon) was a dominant force Saturday.

Day 1 was the match sprints and scratch races for men and women. In the men's match sprints, Keith Bruneau (Dr Walker) worked his way through the rounds and prevailed over former Prime Alliance US professional Ryan Miller.

The match sprints were all fiercely contested in the hundred degree plus heat. We all wish Scott La Liberte a quick recovery from his injury in the preliminary sprint rounds.

Some final words from the race promotor Mr. Troy Coleman,

"Record temperatures of more than 100F (38 C) made for scorching hot racing at Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond, WA over the weekend. Wave Media Racing would like to thank all of the riders who traveled to The Marymoor Velodrome Challenge (part of the AVC race series) on July 24th and 25th. The attendance of everyone helped make this event a success. I would like to especially thank our Canadian friends from up north for bringing world class racing to Marymoor, and for making the racing fast and fierce!

Next year is sure to be a success with more host housing, a bigger prize purse, more spectators, music, beer gardens, and cooler temperatures. Stay tuned for future race announcements as well as a full race report from the 2004 Marymoor Velodrome Challenge!
