Revamped Team Signs Canadian Legend Sue Palmer-Komar
Colavita USA has announced a new co-sponsor for its women's cycling program in 2005: Cooking Light, the world's largest food and fitness magazine. In a move to expand their stronghold in American cycling circles beyond the mens category, Colavita USA has signed Sue Palmer-Komar, the most decorated woman now racing in the North American peloton, who promises to bring new recognition to the revamped team. Both announcements were made by John A. Profaci, Vice President of Colavita USA and Chris Allen, publisher of Cooking Light.
Sue is coming off one of her best-ever seasons in 2004, said new team director John Alsedek. In addition to winning the Canadian National Time Trial, the St. Amand Montrond French Cup event, and America's famous Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, Sue also placed second overall in the Tour de 'Toona, one of the world's longest multi-day races for women, earned a trip to the Athens Olympics, and placed fourth in the Fleche Wallonne, arguably the toughest of the Women's World Cup events.
The Colavita/Cooking Light team offers a spirit and camaraderie that is unrivaled in the womens pro racing circuit, said Palmer-Komar. Im looking forward to training and competing with such an exceptional group of women athletes.
As part of this partnership, Cooking Light and Colavita will be co-hosting a bike safety and nutrition fair in Maplewood, N.J. this spring and a bike trip through the Colavita region of Italy during next falls olive harvest season.
As the leading food and fitness publication, with more than 11.4 million readers, Cooking Light is thrilled to lend its support and provide exposure for such a great womens initiative, said Chris Allen, publisher of Cooking Light.
Additional racer signing announcements, as well as a complete list of 2005 team sponsors and a full racing schedule, will be released over the coming weeks. For more information on the Colavita/Cooking Light Women's Cycling Team, please visit the Web site for Colavita USA (www.colavita.com).
