Burnaby Track Trials Report
CCA coaches Eric Van den Eynde and Kris Westwood were delighted with the turnout and performances of athletes at the World Cup track trials at Burnaby Velodrome on November 30.
Twenty track cyclists were on hand to try to meet the time standards in order to qualify for the Los Angeles World Cup. Three athletes confirmed their selection to the nine-rider World Cup team; eight athletes met at least one time standard and, more importantly, a dozen put up fast enough times to secure an invitation to the three-day camp that followed the trials.
This camp served two purposes: as final preparation for those athletes selected to the World Cup, and as a skills camp for our future national team members. Training focused on madison and team pursuit technique. In all, the endurance riders covered about 200 intense kilometres in three days.
The next step for our development athletes will be selection for the Pan American Championships in April. In the meantime, best of luck to our World Cup team competing in Los Angeles December 9-11.
Special thanks to the Burnaby Velodrome Club for their help in arranging track time, to Wayne Pomario for supplying electronic timing for the trials and to the athletes for making the camp a success.
