KIng of the Long Breakaway Retires

Know for his many, risky and LONG break aways, Jacky Durand has retired from cycling at the age of 37.

Anyone who has followed cycling in the past 14 years would be familiar with his risky daring attackes that often lead to long breakaways, breakaways that won him 2 classics, Tour of Flanders (92) and Paris-Tours (98) and two stages in the Tour de France. The Tour of Flanders win came at the end of a 195 km breakaway.

Durand told AFP, "I've got some good qualities but I'm not the strongest rider in the world. Nevertheless, I've got a better palmarès than riders who have often been well placed in the Classics. I've rarely been placed, I either win or I'm nowhere."
