2005 Webcor Women's Squad

For the upcoming season, the Webcor Builders Women's team will once again be headlined by reigning US National TT Champion and Olympian, Christine Thorburn. In addition to the strong support of returning riders: Felicia Greer, Stefanie Graeter, Cat Malone, Betina Hold, Yukie Nakamura and Kim Boester, the team has added Katheryn Curi and Erinne Willock, both previously with RONA. Also returning from 2004 is team director and former National Criterium Champion, Carmen D'Aluisio.

"I don't think a lot of people realize just how strong Katheryn and Erinne are - they are capable of winning races in their own right, but rode in tireless support of their team leader all last year." said Webcor Builders manager and former World TT Champion, Karen Brems. "The team is much more balanced this year in terms of strength, and I think we have preserved the great chemistry that got us our results last year. Katheryn and Erinne are a perfect fit!" added Brems.

Fly Gurlz is a community driven project that includes: a race team, an all ages and ability level club and a series of ladies mountain bike cross country and downhill camps. The project has been breaking ground for 8 years and has introduced many women to the sport of mountain biking! "Fly Gurlz is about participation, fun and fitness with most of our emphasis being on the fun" says Ward "I am blown away by the support that has come our way for the 2005 season - it's a dream come true".

Additional corporate partnerships for 2005 has allowed the race team to grow to 20 riders who represent four generations of Canadian women! "Never in a million years did I think that this idea of mine would grow to what it is today - it is so fantastic to have hard work pay off in such intangible ways" The Fly Gurlz focus is grassroots racing, riding and supporting. Our club is now active in Ottawa, Toronto and Tri-County and the women running these chapters are dedicated 100% to creating a safe and welcoming environment to our sport.

Team and club riders tend to be "The everyday woman in action" - Fly Gurlz are stay at home mom's, corporate executives, teachers and most often says Ward "We are doing it all and riding our bikes - it's a juggling act and it's awesome!"

The website will launch on March 1st to coincide with the International Bicycle Show taking place in Toronto from March 4 - 6. Please visit us at the show if you are attending as we will be handing out tons of great stuff!
