What began as a dream three long years ago, turned into a reality on Friday morning as the UCI awarded the Aurora Cross a C2 sanction.

As a result, Ontario will be home to the National Cyclo-Cross Championships on November 5th at Hardwood Hills and a UCI race November 6th in Aurora. Although yet to be confirmed, it appears the Aurora Cross will be the first ever UCI Cyclo-Cross race in Canada!

The Aurora Cross has become a mainstay on the OCA calendar and a rider favourite. This was proven at last year's record attended Provincial Championships in Aurora.

The OCA congratulates organiser Scott Doel and the CCA for receiving this sanction. We would also like to thank the following

Town of Aurora
Without their help, the Aurora Cross would never had been in situation. Their commitment and understanding over the years has been amazing. A town official was even spotted as a spectator at last year's Provincial Championships

Canadian Cycling Association
In particular Kris Westwood and Rémi Berube. Mr. Westwood personally delivered the sanction application to the appropriate UCI officials in Europe. Mr. Berube's tireless dedication and determination was instrumental in securing this sanction.

Scott Doel
Mr. Doel has quickly become the cyclo-cross guru of Ontario. It was his dream three years ago to have Ontario host a UCI level cyclo-cross race. We thank him for his vision and determination.

Norco Receives Award

Mountain Biking Magazine has named the Norco VPS Six its 2005 Bike of the Year. The article appears in the March 2005 edition, and will be on newsstands soon.

"It's pretty exciting for a Canadian bike & company to get this kind of recognition from a US magazine like Mountain Biking," commented Norco's marketing guru, Peter Stace-Smith, "For us, it shows that not only is the Canada producing some of the best riders in the world, we're also still leading the way with our bikes."
