Tour Start in Doubt

The police have apparently not backed off in their actions against teams and riders in the Tour de France. European reports say that police detained the Casino team coach, and searched the hotels of the Casino and La Francaise des Jeux teams

We have been receiving a number of requests for information on Abitibi. Unfortunately, we have not received any information since the Tour began. We were promised info, but nothing yet. As soon as we receive anything, we will post it (we promise!).

I have just 'discovered' that the Warkworth Classic RR - Men's Ontario Cup event will be held on Sunday August 2nd, not Monday August 3rd as published and posted on last week's OCA Hotline.

The OCA Hotline has been redone to reflect this and detailed race information.

NORTHUMBERLAND CHALLENGE STAGE RACE
August 1-3, 1998

Registration is still open for the 3 day, five stage Northumberland Challenge this weekend, August 1-3. The race is open to Veteran men, Senior 3 men and all Women's categories. One day Licenses are available (one covers the whole weekend)

Competition begins Saturday morning with a criterium, 40 km for Men, 20 km for women. Saturday evening there is a 16 Km Time Trial. Sunday morning is a 75 km Road race while Sunday night sees a flat but technical 8 km Time Trial. The race finishes on Monday with a 50 km Road Race.

Overall classification will be decided by points. There will be merchandise prizes of over $1500 with cash prizes pending field size.

Riders can register on Friday night 8p.m.- 10:00p.m. at the Cobourg Best Western. Those who have already registered can also come pick up their race packages.

Registration will also be open Saturday Morning but the riders must be at the registration at 9:00 a.m. To get to the Criterium course take Highway 401 to the Cobourg Highway 45 exit. Drive south on Highway 45 (Division Street) and turn left at the fourth set of stop lights onto King St. Drive east on King St. to Willmott Street. Turn right onto Willmott St. Registration will be at the first parking lot on the left.

Outdoor Gear Canada (OGC) Signs Agreement with Ford

Ford Canada has signed a two-year agreement to provide the official vehicles for Outdoor Gear Canada's OGC-Mavic Technical Support Services team.

The OGC-Mavic team services road and mountain bike races and events throughout Canada.

Ford will provide a Ranger XLT and Escort Wagon to the team which is based at OGC's St- Laurent, Quebec headquarters.

A third vehicle, to be based in British Columbia, will be added for the 1999 season.
