July 30/98 8:14 am - Tour Update, Horseshoe Race

Posted by Editor on 07/30/98

Tour Continues

Well, they are still racing in France! However, there have been more teams and rider pullouts before the start of today‚s stage. The Kelme team (with Fernando Escartin, 4th on GC), and the Vitalicio team, plus Luc Leblanc and Polkadot jersey holder Rodolfo Massi have all withdrawn - 103 riders started this morning.

There is a breakaway in the early kilometres of today‚s 218 kilometre stage from Aix les Bains to Neuchatel consisting of Laurent Desbiens (Cofidis), Cedric Vasseur (Gan), Christophe Mengin (FDJ) and Massimo Donati (Saeco), which has over 4 minutes on the peleton. However, the stage is only a third over, so the top riders aren‚t too concerned.
