La cycliste Geneviève Jeanson (Rona) a pris le deuxième rang du prologue, d’une distance de huit milles, de la Classique de Pomona Valley, en Californie, vendredi. Audrey Lemieux (Quark) s’est classée 35e.

Jeanson, qui est seule de l’équipe Rona, a accusé un retard de 19 secondes sur la meneuse Kristin Armstrong (T-Mobil). Pour sa part, Audrey Lemieux a croisé le fil d’arrivée trois minutes et 22 secondes derrière la gagnante.

« C’était très froid, il pleuvait, rien pour me favoriser. Il faudra que je travaille là-dessus. En plus, je crois que j’ai gardé trop d’énergies pour la fin. J’ai économisé mes forces pour la fin et j’avais encore beaucoup de jus à la fin de la course. En d’autres termes, j’aurais pu faire mieux », a indiqué la cycliste d’Alma.

« Ce qui est bon pour mon équipe, c’est que ma coéquipière Annette Beutler a fini quatrième, à 46 secondes de la meneuse. Demain, pour la course sur route de 115 kilomètres, on pourra aller chercher une minute et demie en boni. On conserve nos chances de l’emporter », a-t-elle ajouté en parlant de la course qui se terminera dimanche.

Chez les hommes, Charles Dionne (Webcor) a pris part au contre-la-montre, une montée de sept kilomètres, et, comme les résultats officiels n’étaient pas encore disponibles, il a simplement estimé avoir terminé dans le milieu du classement des quelque 130 coureurs. Samedi, le coureur de St-Rédempteur prendra le départ d’une course sur route de 160 kilomètres. « C’est un résultat moyen », a-t-il commenté.
