Dunlap and Chiotti Take Rockies Stage 2

Hank Sydor just gave us an update on today‚s second stage of the Mercury Tour of the Rockies. Today‚s stage was unrelenting climbing up Mt Werner - starting at 6,795 feet and ending at 10,568 feet. Race leader Alison Sydor (Volvo-Cannondale), Alison Dunlap (Team GT) and Ann Trombley (Ellsworth-Zzyzx) were the early leaders, until Dunlap broke away about 1 kilometre into the climb, and won by 2:01 over Sydor. Ruthie Matthes (Powerbar) came on strong late in the race to take third. In the men‚s race it was GT‚s Jerome Chiotti from the gun, with Pvale Tcherkassov (DBR) 33 seconds behind at the finish. Canada‚s Roland green (Mapei-Kona) was third, at 1:39. Sydor hanges onto the overall leader‚s jersey in the women‚s race, with Chiotti taking a slim 8 second lead over Matt Wallace (Australian National Team) in the men‚s standings.
