2006 Canadian National 'Cross Championships

With the release of the US Crank Brothers Schedule for 2006 the organizers of the 2006 Canadian National Cyclocross Championships can confirm their race weekend to be November 11th and 12th in 2006. This will be excellent for those Canadian riders that are also racing the US series as they will be able to race 5 (and possibly 6) big events over three weekend with Boulder (Nov. 4-5), Nanaimo (Nov. 11+12), Lacey, Washington (Nov. 18), Portland (Nov. 19).

This will be the first ever Cyclocross National Championship race held on Vancouver Island and the first ever National Championship race in any cycling discipline held in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Burnaby Six Day Update

From Scott Laliberte, Event Organizer:

I have had a few questions regarding the SixDay starting next week and thought I would go over the format one more time and also send a note to riders.

The Junior and Sprint Night competition are stand alone events. They only count for that night and do not get counted in any Omniums. The Sprint Night categories are separated into Fast and Faster and only B level racers make the decision into what group they want to race in (with a little help from the organizer).

The C Omnium only takes part on Wednesday and Thursday.

The B Omnium only takes part on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

If you can't make every night of your Omnium then you can race just the nights you show up but are NOT eligible for the overall Omnium. Races are $10 per race then, my apologies to anyone I told $5 per.

The A Omnium is every night other than Friday.

On top of the Omniums, there is also and A and B Madison Omnium and those riders also compete in their respective mass start Omniums. Making the A and B Madison riders competing EVERY night.

Now comes the part where I ask some feedback from possible Madison racers. So far I do not have a feeling that there will be any B level Teams. If you plan on racing and feel you were B level please email me ASAP at If in a few days I do not get the feeling that there will be at least 4 teams, then I will call off the B Madison and just run an A. Also for any racers looking for partners let me know as I have a fast fit fellow (Matt Chater) looking and asking. And last but not least.....A Madison Teams, please remember that you MUST have matching Jerseys. Email me your Teams and Jerseys that you will wear.

I think that should clear any issues up.

RWR/Peak Winter Series

The Winter Racing season is now underway with the completion of Stage 1 of the RWR/ Peak Winter Series. On a course filled with rolling hills and power climbs, Aaron Fillion of the Ottawa bicycle Club held of all challengers on his way to victory finishing with a time of 35min39.8sec. Colin Edwards from Penticton BC was in hot pursuit his entire ride to finish second with a time of 35:59.6. Sean Wakefield from the Ride with Rendall team took 3rd with a time of 37:34.1.

In the women's field, Sue Shlatter posted a solid ride with a time of 40:32.7. Sue's time was fast enough to place her 11th overall in the men's field. Second place went to Cynthia Clarke who finished with a time of 41:07.3 (12th overall). Completing the podium was Cyclefit's Lisa O'Connor.

The Ride with Rendall/Peak Winter Series is a 16 race series designed for fun and fitness with racers going head to head in 8 rider heats on Multilinked Computrainers. Not only has the series been expanded in Ottawa with heats in both locations, now Vancouver riders will have an opportunity to challenge the east coast riders on the same courses for GC and stage titles starting.

Stage 2 is fast approaching so book your heat and start time by calling the Peak Centre in Ottawa at 613-737-PEAK or 604-299-7959 in Vancouver. For more details on the series, and heat start times visit Riders new to Mutirider racing ride for free the first time so sign up now.
