10,000th Posting

This news posting is the 10,000th one to be added to our Daily News database, a milestone that it was hard to imagine reaching when we first began archiving Daily News in 1997. Since we regularly publish multiple news items per posting, we estimate that the database currently holds approximately 24,000 separate news pieces. However, that is not the main anniversary we are celebrating this year: 2006 is the 10th anniversary of CanadianCyclist.com, which went live in late February of 1996.

In that first year I remember having a conversation with Craig Pollack - now President of RaceFace, but in those days Marketing Manager for Rocky Mountain. He was boasting about how busy their website was - 25,000 hits in one month! I checked ours and got back to him the next day, proudly announcing that we had topped 40,000! Nowdays, when we are doing live coverage, we can top that in one hour...
