Escape Velocity Introduces an Innovative New Program to Encourage More Young Women to Participate in Competitive Cycling
Vancouver-based Team Escape Velocity’s women’s cycling team (Team dEVa) and youth development cycling team (Team dEVo) are proud the announce an innovative new program that has been specifically designed to help young women make the transition from bicycle enthusiast to competitive cyclist. This 8 week program will provide an introduction to organized cycling, technical cycling skills, cycling-specific training and provide young women the opportunity to become involved in competitive cycling through a supportive Club environment.
“Navigating a race course at high speeds with 40 other riders in close quarters can be intimidating for anyone who is new to the sport,” remarked Claire Cameron, NCCP Level 1 Cycling Coach. “Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive introduction to the sport of competitive cycling in order to get more young women out to race.”
Through the Young Women’s Cycling Program, participants will learn how to: ride in a group; basic racing theory; cycling specific training (both on the bike and off the bike); personalized instructions from National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified cycling coaches; and receive a Cycling BC Citizen License. Participants will also have the opportunity to ride in the Burnaby Velodrome, participate in dry land “spin” sessions on stationary bikes and experience the thrill of cyclocross. By the end of the 8 week program participants will be able to enter their first road, track or cyclocross race with confidence.
“Cycling is a great sport, “ added Cameron. “Nothing can beat the thrill of racing and confidence you get from finishing a tough ride. “
