On Saturday night [March 27th], riders from the Northeastern United States and Canada will compete in the FCV Speedfest 2010. The evening of racing will feature the introduction of the “Thunder Pro Cycling Series”. This is a new format of track racing that will have four groups of racers trying to qualify for the 18 starting spots (Formula 1 style). Riders will have 90 seconds to set their best time to advance into the round of 18. Skill, speed, and mental toughness will be the priority for the men and women trying to qualify for this first ever event in Canada.

The “Thunder Pro Cycling Series” is the a new race format that eliminates riders every round until there are only eight riders left - four riders in the Small Final, four riders in the BIG Final. To win the overall, riders will have to make it through five round of eliminations. The FCV will be limiting the gears for the competitors (maximum gearing will be 86"). The Forest City Velodrome race organizers want to make the “Thunder Pro Cycling Series” the premier event for sprinters coming to the Velodrome in London, Ontario.

Riders to watch this weekend include 16 year old Kris Ovensek (Invita-FCV) and 33 year old Mike Nuttal (Cycles London). Both of these riders have been going very fast in training.

In other racing action for the endurance riders, many will take part in the Miss & Out elimination endurance race for “A”, “B” and “C” divisions. The Velo-Kids will also be strutting their stuff in four different events throughout the night.

Race warm-up begins at 6:00 pm, with “Thunder Pro Series” qualifying beginning at 7:00 pm. The Forest City Velodrome is located south of the 401 on Wellington Rd in London. Adult admission is $10.00, Seniors $5.00, and Kids are always “FREE”.
