On September 3rd and 4th, Vancouver will be taken to school with the first Annual 'School of Cross' a cyclocross clinic run by 3 time National Team Member and current H&R BLOCK cyclocross rider Aaron Schooler. The clinic will start on Friday September 3rd at 7pm at the Cycling BC Office with a 2hr seminar talking about all things related to cyclocross (no bikes yet please). The clinic will then continue on Saturday starting at 10am with a full day (will run until 3pm) of hands on skills practice and drills at Queen Elizabeth Park. The clinic will wrap up with the Cycling BC Season opener in Langly acting as the final exam!
Why do a cyclocross clinic?
Whether you are a first timer who heard about it from a friend, or even if you only have a Mountain Bike but want to try cyclocross. Clinics are a great way to get out on the turf and learn from the best in the field how the best and most efficient way is to get from A to B on a bike regardless of what stands in your way. Even if you consider yourself a seasoned cross rider, getting off the MTB or road bike in August and hopping on the cross bike is always a hard thing to do unless you practice lots. Clinics help kick start the proper practice you need in order to be able to race your cross bike as if it were an extension of your body.
In the 'School of Cross' cyclocross clinic, you'll learn proper technique, practice drills, and all the tricks of the cyclocross trade in order to make you a cyclocrossing machine! Some of the things that will be covered include:
Class Session: Friday 3rd
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Cycling BC Headquarters – No bikes
Topics: - Introduction to Cyclocross
- Slideshow on cyclocross
- Racing
- Tech Talk
- Open Q&A
Hands On Session: Saturday 4th
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver – Bring Bikes & Cycling Kit
Topics: - Skill Development
- Practice Drills
Things to go through:
- Mounting
- Dismounting
- Sand Riding
- Off-camber and turning on the off-camber
- Shouldering the bike
- Crossing Barriers
- Running with the bike
- Descending
