On September 29th, Emily Batty won $1000 at the Liberty Squeezer Off road race, and quickly turned around and donated to the Niagara born, all women's cycling team, the Bikefit Sunflower Squad. This gesture was overwhelmingly accepted by the team's head coach and founder, Jenny Brown.
Emily of Trek World Racing team, and her Trek store team have been the most "hands-on" role models that Brown has ever seen in her 20 year racing and coaching career.
Brown's athletes have been inspired by this role model. Emily and her Trek Store teammates have provided "riding with the pro's" pre-race training rides to allow kids to meet and have fun with the pro's. It has allowed youth racers to meet and realize that their role models are real people too. This will greatly assist in the development of future racers. Furthermore, the Trek team has fostered connections with the kids and regularly touch base.
Brown commends Emily, Trek Store Team and sponsors for being "hands on inspiration"! Just what the sport needs.
The Sunflowers will endeavor to utilize the monies for girls to participate in cycling, barrier free and thrilled to have this gesture from such a world class racer.
