Cycling BC is seeking people interested in volunteer opportunities as Race Timing Technicians and Event Representatives.
Event Representatives (Road/MTB/Cyclo-cross)
Cycling BC is recruiting people interested in occasional work as Cycling BC Event Representatives (ERs) for the Road, Mountain Bike, and Cyclo-cross Disciplines. ERs assist with race registration at major BC events in each discipline and represent the Cycling BC Office. Specific responsibilities include:
• Assisting the race organization with sign-in and start list creation, specifically to solve membership and licensing issues, and to ensure that the start lists are created in the correct format
• Working with the Commissaires, Timing Technicians and Organizer to produce race results
• Overseeing the Cycling BC part of the awards ceremonies, to ensure that leaders jerseys, championship jerseys and medals are correctly awarded
Ideal Event Representative Candidates have a background in the sport as a rider, parent or family member of a rider, or as a volunteer (e.g. race organizer, course marshal, coach, official). Some basic knowledge of cycling races is an asset, as is basic familiarity with computers and office software such as Microsoft Excel.
If you’re interested in a fun and interesting way to help the sport grow, we look forward to hearing from you.
Remuneration:
While this is primarily a volunteer role, trained and certified Event Representatives are paid an honorarium of $150 / race day (plus one travel day for events more than a 200 km round trip away, or involving a trip to/from Vancouver Island). ERs are paid mileage at $0.37 / km, plus ferry fares, and hotel expenses (if applicable).
To Apply:
If you would like to apply as an Event Representative, please send an e-mail containing the following information to Kevin MacCuish, Cycling BC Director of Technical Programs (kevin@cyclingbc.net). Applications are due no later than 4 pm on February 18, 2011. In your application e-mail:
• Summarize your background in cycling, and computer experience
• List any other relevant skills or experience (or include a recent resume)
• Describe your expected availability on weekends in spring and summer 2011
Training will be held in early March, 2011 at the Cycling BC office and is mandatory. Cycling BC may be able to help with travel cost for those who live some distance away, or can provide teleconference access to the training session.
Contact kevin@cyclingbc.net should you have any questions prior to applying.

The ideal Race Timing Technician candidate is someone who has a background in the sport as a rider, parent or family member of a rider, or as a volunteer (e.g. race organizer, course marshal, coach, official). Timers are also paid mileage at $0.37 / km, and are given accommodation by the race organizer if the race is more than a 150 km round trip away (or if it involves a trip on BC Ferries).
