Infrastructure Ontario and TO2015 are working collaboratively with York University and the City of Hamilton to develop two compliant stadia and a velodrome facility. The first stage of the process involves a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for companies to submit their qualifications to design, build and finance the project (the same RFQ includes the refurbishment of Hamilton's Ivor Wynne stadium and a York University stadium).
The Pan Am Velodrome project in Hamilton includes:
• meeting all of the technical requirements of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), including a 250 metre indoor wood track;
• fixed and temporary seating with a Games capacity of 2,500; and
• a multi-sport infield for activities associated with cycling and other recreational sport activities.
The design and construction of the stadia and velodrome will strive to incorporate sustainable development practices such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, waste diversion and recycling and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.
In the next step of the process, pre-qualified teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals (RFP) in Summer 2011.
