Fourth Annual Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour
Set To Go July 2-9, 2011
Registration for the fourth annual Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour (GWTA), a 720 km supported end-to-end cycling tour of the Ontario waterfront and greenways, passing through 41 Ontario communities in eight days, has been extended to June 8, 2011. The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour (GWTA) will launch on Saturday, July 2, 2011 with cyclists traveling from Niagara-on-the-Lake in the west to the Quebec border in the east, in a supported tour that will stretch along the shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, using the Waterfront Trail and Greenway. Suitable for all cycling skill levels, participants can sign up for as few as one or all eight days.
Organized by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, Welcome Cyclists, and over 50 waterfront partners, including local municipalities, conservation authorities and community groups, the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure showcases waterfront communities such as Niagara-on-the-Lake, Hamilton, Toronto, Ajax, Cramahe/Colborne, Napanee, Brockville, Cornwall and South Glengarry. In 2011, the GWTA will feature five new stops in waterfront communities, which have invested with 41 partner communities to create the Waterfront Trail, a multi-use path that uses a combination of paths and roads. (Visit www.waterfronttrail.org ) to view the map and for a complete listing of events to date in each community.) The cyclists will have an opportunity to see vibrant communities and beautiful parks, experience delicious local food and entertainment, learn fascinating history, visit the last remaining coastal wetlands, forests and beaches, and enjoy charming shops and unique local businesses.
The Adventure sells out every year. Registration fees apply. Fees and information can be found at www.waterfronttrail.org or call (416) 943-8080.
