Today the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada in partnership with Tire Stewardship BC and the local biking community are proud to announce the launch of a new bike tire and tube recycling program on June 1, 2011. This is a voluntary program and BTAC and TSBC is delighted at the interest and support shown by the bike retailers in the province to participate.
Retailers can find complete information on how to join the program here. For answers to frequently asked questions visit our website.
A few key aspects of the new program include:
• The program piggy-backs on the existing auto scrap tire collection and recycling infrastructure, managed by TSBC.
• The program is completely voluntary for bike shop retailers.
• There will be no cost to the consumer (i.e. No eco fee), and no disposal fee to your bike shop.
BTAC and TSBC would like to thank Nick Palaj from the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition for his persistence and assistance and to Aaron Bremner from the 02 Cycling Club in Victoria who has been instrumental in bringing this program to its launch.
We hope your shop decides to participate in the program and offer bike tire and tube recycling to your customers. We are really excited about this initiative and look forward to working with you in the coming months to make it a success.
