The 2011 IMMUNITY-FX Canadian Road Championships powered by Canaccord Wealth Management came to an end today in Burlington, ON. Annie Ewart of the Cycling BC took her second victory of the event today in the junior women’s road race, clearly a dominant riders, while Emile Jean of Team Québec sprinted to victory in the men’s junior race.
With about three laps to go in the 68 kilometres race, Ewart launched an attack along with three other riders. The break group immediately applied pressure on the small peloton of less than 20 riders, and the move quickly disintegrated the peloton in small pieces. In the last lap, Ewart decided to make her own move against Allison Beveridge of Team Alberta, who finished second, and Alizée Brien of Team Québec, who came third.
In the men’s junior race, it’s Emile Jean of Team Québec who took the gold medal and Canadian title. Jean waited to the very last moment to launch his attack in the final kilometre of the gruelling 111 Kilometre race, a strategy that proved to be quite successful.
David Onsow of Team Québec went on an early break with Adam Kopera of Team Racer Sportif, which started on the third of 10 laps, and lasted until two laps to go as the attack was swallowed by the peloton. The break group had a gap of over 2 minutes at one point on this very challenging course, by the peloton decided it wasn’t going to allow the break to last. In the last two kilometres, the peloton launched his attack and caught Kopera and Onsow to create a bunch sprint to the line.
The men’s race was 111 kilometres, while the women’s race was approximately 68 kilometres.
