GranFondo Canada regrets to announce today the cancellation of the 2012 GranFondo Niagara Falls.
There are many required features that must exist to create the possibility of a sensational cycling experience and Niagara Falls has all of them. The world class scenery, tremendous civic enthusiasm, passionate cycling community, spectacular hospitality, excellent and varied riding and an electric atmosphere are all there. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach a workable arrangement with all stakeholders to be able to enjoy them in our GranFondo concept. Our cycling events are unique and we are not interested in settling for anything less than the best possible experience for our participants.
GranFondo Canada must take responsibility for believing that we had all the pieces in place when the event was announced in August of this year, but there were some obstacles we were clearly not expecting.
We are open for discussions with the Region of Niagara to look at a date in 2013.
Kevin Thomson, Co-Founder of GranFondo Canada says “The Region of Niagara rolled out the red carpet for this concept. They saw the potential like we did and it was unfortunate that some unforeseen obstacles have resulted in this cancellation. Perhaps there is hope for a future event, because we’re sure it would be spectacular.”
GranFondo Canada remains committed to producing world-class cycling experiences in Canada’s best riding locations. Our 2012 calendar of events currently includes RBC GranFondo Kelowna on July 14, and the RBC GranFondo Whistler on September 8.
