Trek Women wants to encourage girls who like to have fun to ride bicycles as part of their 2012 adventures. In addition to sponsorships with the Athleta Iron Girl Series and Venus de Miles, Trek Women is expanding its reach to the Dirty Girl Mud Run series and the ZOOMA Women’s Race Series. Details can be found on the Trek Women Facebook page.
“We’ve sponsored triathlons for years and decided to add some new events for 2012,” said Leslie Prevish, Director of Global Consumer Outreach. “The booming popularity of adventure races and continued growth of women and running prompted us to expand our reach to inspire more women to find fitness and fun on bikes.”
New this year, Trek Women will be the Official Cycling Sponsor of the all-women’s Dirty Girl Mud Run series. In its inaugural 2011 season, the muddy fun events attracted 12,000 fun-loving women who enjoyed the non-intimidating 5k obstacle course and celebratory after-party. The series has 12 events slated for 2012. www.godirtygirl.com
Women made up 59% of the more than 1.3 million half-marathon finishers in 2010. Many runners add cycling to their crosstraining regime for its lower-impact cardio fitness. Sponsoring the ZOOMA Women’s Race Series is a perfect fit as it hosts five women’s half marathons, 10k, and 5k runs in 2012. www.zoomarun.com
The sport of triathlon attracts more women every year seeking a new challenge. Trek Women is excited to continue as the Official Bike Sponsor for the Athleta Iron Girl Series. The 2012 season features triathlons and run/walks in 16 locations across the U.S. www.irongirl.com
Venus de Miles enters its fifth year with its all-women’s event in Boulder County, CO, on August 26th. The 2011 event brought more than 2100 women to explore 33, 51, 67 and 100-mile options. In 2012, it expands to Lake Forest, IL, on July 29th, bringing a blend of camaraderie and festive atmosphere with the Men in Drag Crew. www.venusdemiles.com
