February 16/12 10:57 am - Draft of Canadian Sport Policy 2.0 Released for Comment

Canadians have shown that they are passionate about sport. The renewed Canadian Sport Policy seeks to capture and embrace the value and importance of sport and advance the public policy outcomes inspired by sport in Canada.

The consultation and engagement process for the Canadian Sport Policy 2.0 has been extensive. Over the past year, a broad spectrum of Canadians and Canadian organizations interested in sport have shared their views through a series of consultations at the community, provincial and territorial and national levels, as well as through an on-line e-survey.

Feedback from the consultations as well as a summary report prepared by the Conference Board of Canada formed the basis of the discussion paper “Towards a Renewed Canadian Sport Policy” which was examined at the National Gathering in November 2011. These reports, including the summary report from the National Gathering, are available on the SIRC site at

The draft of the Canadian Sport Policy 2.0 is now available for your review. Organizations and individuals are invited to submit their comments at on the draft policy before March 7th. In particular we would like to hear:

• What are the strengths of the draft CSP 2.0?
• What are its weaknesses?
• How could these weaknesses be addressed?
• Do you have any additional comments and feedback?
