Organization: 4Cs Foundation
Application Deadline: Sunday April 01, 2012
Website: www.4csfoundation.com
Position: Coordinator, Arts Bikers Program
Term: Contract
Location: Halifax, NS
Salary: $18 to $22/hr depending on experience
Start Date: Apr 01, 2012

The organization would be especially interested in someone who could be available for creative, full-time work between April and September for several years.

The ART BIKERS program is a community arts outreach program of the 4Cs Foundation. The ART BIKERS are a team of artists using bicycles and pulling colourful trailers full of art materials to reach neighbourhoods throughout greater Halifax and deliver facilitated arts-based activities that open up a world of creativity, connection, and fun for children and other community members. Now entering its 6th season, the program continues to demonstrate that making art together is a significant "connector" of people at a community and neighbourhood level.

The ART BIKERS program has three goals within the overall 4Cs mandate of “fostering creative connections between children and their communities”:

• to provide spontaneous, fun, and creative opportunities for the general public (of all ages) to engage with young artists in free, art making activities;
• to make art an event that happens at a street and community level;
• to stimulate interest and participation in community arts in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Coordinator Position

The ART BIKERS program is delivered from late May until the end of August each summer. The Coordinator job involves hiring, training, and building the team, ongoing supervision, planning and scheduling as well as program delivery and evaluation. As coordinator you are both the program administrator and an active part of the team delivering activities in the community. The work takes place both in an office as well as out in the community, generally in parks and other public spaces. It is a split of administration and active, program delivery. It is physically demanding and requires a broad range of skills and aptitudes.

Requirements
As the ART BIKERS COORDINATOR, you will inspire and manage a team of young artists/creative community workers in delivering art-based activities that engage the general public (primarily children/youth) in exploring, connecting and creating together.
• You value collaborative art-making as a tool for bringing people together to give voice, address issues, share stories and/or celebrate at a community level.
• You display a high level of imaginative and creative thinking and have a range of arts skills – ideally interdisciplinary skills.
• You have experience fostering creative expression in others by facilitating their learning and engagement in arts activities.
• You are open, genuine, energetic, reliable, and a respectful, inclusive leader.
• You have solid experience with program coordination including staff hiring, training and supervision within a non-profit, grassroots organization.
• You are highly adaptable in unpredictable situations.
• You are physically fit, have urban bicycle riding skills and own a mountain or hybrid bicycle in excellent working condition.
