Mansfield Outdoor Centre Once Again Plays Host To Opening Event

The Plastiglas XC Ontario Cup Series is set to kick-off on Sunday, April 29th at Mansfield Outdoor Centre.

For the 9th time, Mansfield will treat over 600 Ontario mountain bikers of all levels to flowing singletrack and challenging rolling terrain. Pre-registration is available until Wednesday, April 25th and event-day registration is available on site. To participate, racers will need a licence or a one-day permit for Sport, Youth and Beginner Categories. Licences are available for purchase online through the Ontario Cycling Association at www.ontariocycling.org. For a guide to the licensing system check out the OCA Licence Guide.

Interested racers are invited to participate in the third annual Learn to Race Clinic on Saturday, April 28th. It will serve as a guide to the ins and outs of XC mountain bike racing in a fun and laid back environment. With the help of expert instructors including Amanda Sin (Scott/3Rox), Peter Glassford (Trek Canada), Andrew Watson (Norco Factory) and many others, participants gain confidence in essential skills such as climbing, descending, cornering, and pre-race preparation. Registration is only available through Chico Racing and closes April 25th.  Register now

Mansfield is the first of seven races included in the 2012 Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series. “Amazing summer-like trail conditions allowed us to design the best Mansfield course to date”, says course designer Sean Ruppel. This year, the Naughton Trails in Sudbury will welcome racers for the first time on July 8th. Think open, rocky terrain with awesome flowing singletrack that's sure to impress even the most seasoned riders. The custom-built Woodnewton course is back for a third season and full series registration includes the Trek Store Canada Cup at Hardwood Hills. Rounding out the series will be Ontario Cup Series stalwarts Albion Hills, Buckwallow and the challenging Provincial Championships at Highlands Nordic Centre. The Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series has categories for all ages and ability levels.

The Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series has a proud history. It has been the starting point for many World Cup racers such as Emily Batty (Subaru-Trek) and Derek Zandstra (Scott/3Rox) and it has established itself as Canada’s Largest XC Race Series. These renowned events regularly attract riders from coast to coast, and beyond.
