Team Specialized-lululemon won the team time trial World Cup event on Friday in Vargarda, Sweden, in an exciting dual with Orica Green Edge.
Orica-GreenEdge, led by World TT Champion Judith Arndt, hit the first time split at 14.6km with a three second advantage on Specialized-lululemon. But the second part of the race saw a reversal in the time splits with Specialized-lululemon making up 13 seconds by the second time split and eventually won by 29 seconds.
"It was an exciting and nerve racking race," said Team Sport director Ronny Lauke. "The girls looked great on the road and kept their cool on the technical course. They had to fight back after the first time split but they didn't panic and they were really able to bring it home. It was amazing to watch. At one point the hit 80km/hour coming back to town."
"It was an important win for us," he added. "Coming up in September is the inaugural World Team Time Trial Championships for Pro Teams and we have focused a lot on preparing for that. It's the perfect opportunities for professional teams to showcase their sponsor at a World Championship event and it's definitely a big goal for us.
"This event in Sweden is always such a great battle and having it and the team time trial coming up at Holland Ladies Tour is great preparation for World's."
