The 2012 Vanier Park Cyclocross in Vancouver, BC, will be over the top. It will be more than your good ol' cross race. Mark that day in your calendar when cross comes to town: Sunday, September 30, 2012.
The race will be part of the Vancouver Superprestige Series and the Cycling BC CX Cup # 2 and part of a brutal, fast and furious back-to-back racing weekend in the city of Vancouver: New Brighton on Saturday, Vanier Park on Sunday. Amen!
Expect all you know and love about racing in Vanier Park: the Free Kids' Race at 12:30 and the Neutral Race Support, some BBQ action and a tested-and-true Euro-style race course where tubies rule. We toss in a new race category (yes, it's Single Speed!), sprinkle some more European flavor over it with real Belgian Waffles, thanks to Olivier and Penny Lebeau from Patisserie Lebeau and finish it off with the help from our other sponsors Vancouver's very own (!) outdoor cooperative MEC and the long time cyclocross sponsor and bike racing supporter CLIF Bar.
And we know times are tough so we stick with our $25 price tag for yet another year (for pre-registration, online now until Friday 10:00 pm). No worries, race day registration ($30) is available, too.
Even better: coming from the Island? We will cover some travel cost (up to $10) and we can find you a place to stay overnight for New Brighton and Vanier Park. Contact us and we will help.
Or coming from south of the border? We'll chip in some gas money ($5)and honor your USCF license like when you're racing on home soil.
The schedule should be as following:
• 9:30am - Registration opens (sign on ends 15 minutes prior to each start)
• 10:00am - Neutral Support by Vancouver Bike Galley
• 10:30am - Citizen Women/Men, Junior Women/Men (40 minutes)
• 11:30am - Open/Master Women, Cat 3/4 and Master 3/4 Men (45 minutes)
• 12:30pm - Free Kids' Race by Steed Cycles 3-7 years (5 minutes)/8-12 years (10 minutes)
• 12:30pm - BBQ is heating up (still working out details, with veggie options of course)
• 1:00pm - Elite Men (60 minutes), Masters Men 1/2 and Single Speed (45 minutes)
And as usual, there would be no racing without our generous sponsors and supporters:
Patisserie Lebeau, Mountain Equipment Coop, CLIF Bar, Giant Bicyles, Steed Cycles, Vancouver Bike Gallery, Musette Caffee, Race Face Components, Schwalbe Tires, Cycles Lambert, Banditas Taqueria, Active Life Physio, Uprsing Breads, Island Farms, Whole Foods, and of course City of Vancouver.
And who would be responsible for all that? WestCoast Racing and TREK RedTruck Racing, two of Vancouver's finest bike clubs and racing teams, and their dedicated volunteers.
