Team Hardwood-Trek kicked off the 2013 cycling season with a trip to the Forest City Velodrome this past weekend. Coaches, Parents and Athletes participated in the TRACK 1 Program offered at the London facility, with a few athletes being selected to try the racing program on the Saturday night. For many it was the first time riding a “fixxie” and proved to be an extremely successful event, getting everybody thinking about riding in the coming months!
Team Hardwood-Trek is a Mountain Bike Development Program, notably the longest running Developmental Cycling Program in the Province of Ontario, and provides cycling opportunities for athletes ranging in age from 10-18 years old. The Trek Store supported team is based out of Hardwood Ski & Bike, primarily focusing on MTB with added opportunities to experience Road, Track, Cyclocross, Downhill and even BMX cycling disciplines during the season.
Team Hardwood-Trek Programs are accepting athletes who are looking for coaching and development for the 2013 season. Program levels include BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and the TREK STORE SQUAD. Each level is tailored for various stages of riding, training, racing and performing in the sport of cycling.
The NCCP Level III Head Coach, Kevin Simms, would like to extend an invitation to any athletes interested in joining the Team Hardwood-Trek “Family”. Simms, along with his NCCP certified coaching staff, have already begun programing with the senior athletes and will be looking to get started with younger athletes as the snow melts. Parents can count on coaching for athletes each Wednesday night, paralleling the Trek Store Wednesday Night Race Series at Hardwood Ski and Bike beginning in May.
Team Hardwood-Trek @ JOYRIDE 150 on Saturday, February 9th, will be our next team gathering. THT athletes and coaches will be travelling to the Indoor facility for some pre-season training. It will be an opportunity to meet the coaches for 2013 and talk about plans for the upcoming race season. Parents, Athletes and potential program participants are all welcome to join in on the fun! Coaches will be working with athletes on some technical riding skills, completing some laps on the XC course and doing a workout in the Spin room.
Registration for Team Hardwood-Trek Programs is now open and can be completed by contacting Hardwood Ski & Bike. Parents looking for more information can contact Kevin Simms directly for more details. Other important links have been listed below. We look forward to seeing all previous program participants and any new athletes interested in riding with Team Hardwood-Trek this season. Have a great season everybody!
