Trek Bicycle announced today that it has signed on as the title sponsor of the inaugural Trek Cyclocross Collective Cup. Scheduled for September 21st and 22nd in Waterloo, Wisconsin, the race will take place on the grounds of Trek world headquarters.
"Trek is pulling out all the stops for the Trek Cyclocross Collective Cup," said Trek Road Brand Manager Michael Mayer. "Our collaboration with the Trek Cyclocross Collective and Katie Compton has been a huge success and we had to find a way to bring the party to Waterloo. The Trek CXC Cup was the perfect opportunity to host a national level event in our hometown."
After four years managing a key stop in the USGP CX series, the promotion team of John Ericsson and Renee Callaway, who started the race in 2008, have taken back the reins, ensuring international level cyclocross returns to the Midwest.
"We started the UCI event in Wisconsin several years ago because we had such a passionate cyclocross community hungry for a national level event," said promoter John Ericsson. "I'm extremely excited to be working with Trek as they have so much enthusiasm for the sport and are the perfect partner to help us ensure a top quality race and a great fan experience in 2013."
The Trek CXC Cup will feature two days of racing for UCI C2 points for elite racers but Saturday will feature higher prize payout levels equal to a UCI C1 race. In addition, the elite women will race for equal prize money as deep as the men's list on both Saturday and Sunday. "Although we are disappointed not to retain our UCI C1 status for Saturday's race we intend to go forward with the higher prize payout and hold one of the best events of the season," said promoter Renee Callaway.
In addition to the professional events, amateur races for USAC licensed riders will be held on both days. With 600 participants riding each day in previous years, the Trek CXC Cup will be one of the largest cyclocross events in the Midwest.
"The folks at Trek love cyclocross and they really know how to have a good time and put on a great event," said Trek Cyclocross Collective rider Katie Compton. "I have heard a little bit about the course and have a feeling it will be hard but super fun to ride."
Registration for the the Trek CXC Cup will open at 5:00 pm on Friday, August 16th, for all categories at BikeReg.com. Riders, fans, and sponsors can learn more about the race, location, and venue at trekcxccup.com.
