February 11/14 13:35 pm - WADA Confirms UCI Independent Commission Terms of Reference

The UCI announced today the terms of Reference for its Cycling Independent Reform Commission (CIRC) [see Daily News - UCI Independent Reform Commission Appeals for Testimony].  In the announcement, the UCI stated that it was working with WADA (World Anti-doping Agency).  Wada has now confirmed that it supports CIRC and the Terms of Reference, including reduced sanctions for testimony.

WADA statement:

The UCI today confirmed the terms of reference of the Cycling Independent Reform Commission (CIRC), which has commenced its work into historical problems relating to the sport of cycling. At the center of these terms is the commission's appeal for testimony in order to assist its investigation into cycling's past.

WADA is pleased the Commission has begun its work and that the terms of reference and regulations under which it is conducted will be pursuant to the World Anti-Doping Code.

WADA is confident that the commissioners will conduct a thorough exercise, and that they will receive all relevant evidence from any witnesses with information which could help the commission gain an understanding of cycling's past. This investigation will draw a line under the difficulties of cycling's recent past and allow the sport to look forward confidently to the future.
