Driven by parent and student demand, public school trustees at Howe Sound Secondary School in Squamish, BC, have granted their approval for the creation of a cycling academy beginning Spring 2015.

The cycling academy is the first of its kind in B.C. and instruction will be led by Mike Charuk, a local resident and the head coach of Team B.C. Charuk will provide instruction in a wide range of cycling disciplines, including cross-country, mountain, BMX and road cycling.

The programs aims to provide young men and women of various abilities with knowledge of fitness training, organization and nutrition.

The cost of the cycling academy will be $1,300 per student. However, Gravity Logic and the Squamish Off Road Cycling Association will be providing scholarships for teens who want to participate but might not otherwise be able to afford it.

Read the story in the Squamish Chief.
